John Lowe MBE – the Classiest Man in Darts

I first met John Lowe in the mid-1990s at an exhibition he and Cliff Lazerenko staged on Cape Cod following the Witch City Open. Like just about every player in the room, I was a little awestruck.

At the time, …

Darts in the Olympics?

Recently, I woke up, poured a cup of coffee, and learned – somewhere between the second sip and my dogs demanding breakfast – that flag football is now an Olympic sport.

Flag football!

In the Olympic Games!

Now, I don’t want to sound unreasonable (at …

John Part – a memory for your birthday (has it really been 23 years!)

In 1999, I sat down in a bar outside of Toronto to interview John Part. He’d won the Embassy in 1994, was ranked 6th by the World Darts Federation and was holding down the number …

I miss my friend, Howie Reed

This is from one year ago.

It’s hard to believe it’s been that long since the darts world lost Howie Reed.

Darts on the Edge of the Arctic Circle

It began, as these things often do, with a message that made no sense.

“Pack light. Bring your darts. Just get yourself to Reykjavík.”

Now, I’ve played darts in some strange places over the years – a rooftop in Hanoi, a …

Lead the world, Dart People – BOYCOTT McDonald’s

Ever since I first started throwing league darts, I have followed the same sacred after-match routine.

Straight to McDonald’s.

Two cheeseburgers and a small fry.

The burgers were never for me. They were for my dogs, who enthusiastically greeted my return …

Darts in the Islamic Republic of Iran (old, but timely)

While I had hoped business travel might coincide with the 13th staging of the Asia Pacific Cup in Kuala Lumpur in September, it was not to be. News reached me fast however and I was pleased to learn that …
