Howie Reed

In remembrance of Howie Reed (October 3, 1938 – April 10, 2025). To reflect on his life and legacy, please see the obituary here Astute, often controversial, and always humorous, the Old Dart Coach, Howie Reed (a former rodeo cowboy and advertising executive), was heralded as the Dean of Darts Chroniclers - the most prolific and widely followed writer ever about our sport. He went back decades with the legends and knew where the skeletons were buried (just ask any of the ADO and WDF old-timers!). Here are four well-known facts about the Old Dart Coach: 1) he was a Republican, 2) he loved the ladies, 3) he could drink most anybody under the table, and 4) he threw darts as bad as Dartoid.

If you want to be a sport act like one!

Toeing the Oche has for the most part been positive on the Professional Darts Corporation. They, the PDC, have accomplished in fewer than 15 years what the sport couldn’t accomplish in the 500 years prior. A TV contract, the …

SURPRISE! It’s Taylor Again (at European Championships)

Back in the day when the Old Dart Coach was the Old Rodeo Guy the days around July 4th used to be called “Cowboy’s Christmas.” The name emerged from a string of rodeos around that holiday that could make or break a …
