Howie Reed

In remembrance of Howie Reed (October 3, 1938 – April 10, 2025). To reflect on his life and legacy, please see the obituary here Astute, often controversial, and always humorous, the Old Dart Coach, Howie Reed (a former rodeo cowboy and advertising executive), was heralded as the Dean of Darts Chroniclers - the most prolific and widely followed writer ever about our sport. He went back decades with the legends and knew where the skeletons were buried (just ask any of the ADO and WDF old-timers!). Here are four well-known facts about the Old Dart Coach: 1) he was a Republican, 2) he loved the ladies, 3) he could drink most anybody under the table, and 4) he threw darts as bad as Dartoid.

The 2010 Grand Slam of Darts

In all sport there are seminal events or moments that simply defy description or explanation. Regardless one must try. In today’s world of Blackberry-mania those events would be described using term like “OMG!!!” or “WTF!!!” with probably 200 shouts of “UNBELIEVABLE!!!” tossed in …

A Bountiful Buffet of Darts, with “Whine”

The recently concluded World Grand Prix was for some a Mickey D’s Happy Meal without the toy. For others – those addicted to delicious delights from the oche – it was a bountiful buffet of delectable morsels.

All are correct, with the …

Opinions today have become like ears, “Everybody has at least two.” If he were alive today that would of course exclude old Vincent van Gough. Vinnie had this plan to win the hand (and probably a couple of other parts) of his dearly beloved. …
