Dartoids World

Howie Reed

In remembrance of Howie Reed (October 3, 1938 – April 10, 2025). To reflect on his life and legacy, please see the obituary here Astute, often controversial, and always humorous, the Old Dart Coach, Howie Reed (a former rodeo cowboy and advertising executive), was heralded as the Dean of Darts Chroniclers - the most prolific and widely followed writer ever about our sport. He went back decades with the legends and knew where the skeletons were buried (just ask any of the ADO and WDF old-timers!). Here are four well-known facts about the Old Dart Coach: 1) he was a Republican, 2) he loved the ladies, 3) he could drink most anybody under the table, and 4) he threw darts as bad as Dartoid.

IT’S LUKE’s WORLD!

The newspaper headline blared: “Littler’s Legend takes flight.” Then came the sub head: “At 17, becomes youngest world champion in dart history”.  Really no surprise there, except that headline isn’t from London papers like the Star, the Sun, the Mirror or the Express, to …

LUCK… YAY or NAY

The golfing great Jack Nicholaus said, “The more I practice the luckier I get.” The Old Dart Coach would strongly disagree with Nicholaus. There is good luck, bad luck and the old favorite – “No Foxtrot Luck.”  Conventional wisdom, often says, “Good and bad luck …

Gary Anderson attacks the ODC!

Gary Anderson, the smooth throwing Scot, is never shy about stating his opinion.  It’s sometimes difficult to understand what the heck he’s saying. The Old Dart Coach recently caught a post of Anderson being interviewed after a match. Fortunately, it as transcribed for the …
