IS!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Golden Age darters have fond memories of the Lakeside Country Cub, Frimley Green.\u00a0 The names of darting\u00a0greats names roll off the tongue like water over Niagara Falls.\u00a0\u00a0This week, the ancient venue plays host to the WDF\u2019s World Championships. \u00a0Most of the names of the participants are so unknown\u00a0they might be in witness protection, but first\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Betting is a big part of the Premier League. \u00a0A really big score is putting together a parley or accumulator, especially when you find a Bingo free square.\u00a0\u00a0But beware – there\u2019s \u201cmany a slip between cup and lip.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Michael van Gerwen was the\u00a0free \u201csquare\u201d against James Wade. \u00a0A sure thing…<\/p>\n<p>Whoops! \u00a0Wade methodically spanked him 6-2 finishing with 12 and 13 darts. \u00a0From then on, the first round was all chalk. \u00a0Joe Cullen raced to a 4-0 lead over Gerwyn Price – Price helped with\u00a09\u00a0missed doubles. \u00a0Cullen would prevail 6-3.\u00a0\u00a0The final score of Wright\u2019s 6-5 win over Gary Anderson was sloppy. \u00a0Weight got to 6 after Anderson couldn\u2019t check 68 with\u00a03. \u00a0Jonny Clayton\u2019s 6-1 win over Michael Smith proves that averages don\u2019t mean much. \u00a0Smith led the averages 99.81 to 99.53 but had only 4 double opportunities – the one he converted was a T21.<\/p>\n<p>James Wade was tied at 2 with Joe Cullen when he broke out with games of\u00a014, 13 and a pair of 17s for a 6-2 win. \u00a0In the other semi, Peter Wright led 2-0 in 11 and 14 darts.\u00a0\u00a0Cullen capitalized on 5 Wright misses to level. \u00a0From then on it was \u201cGood Night Nurse\u201d for Cullen as Wade took the next 4 for the win.<\/p>\n<p>The final between Clayton and Wade turned into a brilliant display of \u201capproach shots\u201d – Wade was 100% on doubles. \u00a0Clayton won 6-1 with the following set ups. \u00a0T80s to equaled 86, 100, 38 a T77 for 24, T40 for 41 and T27 for 43 grew. \u00a0He missed the bull on the T27.\u00a0\u00a0(As a postscript, Michael van Gerwen was 4-nil down to Peter Wright\u00a0Saturday in the Players Championship.\u00a0\u00a0He opened a Giant Economy can of \u201cWP\u201d taking 8 on the trot for the 8-4 win.)<\/p>\n<p>The WDF (Woke Darting Foolishness) \u201cOur\u201d World Championship kicked off\u00a0at the Lakeside.\u00a0 The current saying is \u201cIt\u2019s Putin\u2019s Fault.\u201d\u00a0 That was true for Anastasia Dobromyslova (3-times champion). \u00a0An older one is,\u00a0\u201cNever get in a scent fight with a skunk.\u201d \u00a0Alas, the ODC has succumbed.\u00a0\u00a0A BDO fanatic posted the following.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe bookies\u2019 favourite (<\/em>nice spelling<em>) on the grounds that he plays in the PDC (MERCENARIES\u2026 Different game on regulation equipment up against the BDO (FAMILY).\u00a0 Proves\u00a0again that regulation darts is the TRUE test of a player, particularly at the Home of World Darts.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegulation equipment\u201d? \u00a0The same\u00a0board and darts\u00a0as the PDC. \u00a0If this person is\u00a0a spokesman for the BDO family they\u2019re the doppelganger of the Gallaghers of Chicago TV fame, not the Brady Bunch.\u00a0 This delusional clown ends with,\u00a0<em>\u201cAnd does anyone know if Veronica is a lesbian or attached to any man, I wouldn’t mind a crack at her while I’m here.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>And then from Anthony Eno (a poster with no self-awareness),\u00a0<em>\u201cI’m disgusted by some of the comments on the internet these days.\u00a0 I love our sport, particularly those who are genuine members of the BDO (FAMILY).\u201d\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how his BDO family answers:\u00a0<em>\u201cGo get fu***d fruit loop.\u00a0 Why do people answer that nutcase\u00a0<\/em><em>🙄?\u00a0\u00a0This guy has a screw loose – BDO is dead will never rise again, thank God.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Liam Morris dared to stand up for Anastasia stating, \u201c<em>Can\u2019t believe they banned those lovely warmongering Russians!\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>Eno, Liam,\u00a0<em>\u201cscum like you should be banished from the (family).\u201d <\/em>\u00a0The\u00a0sound of a\u00a0slamming\u00a0door with a raised finger and a\u00a0\u201cFoxtrot Oscar.\u201d \u00a0The most telling comment is <em>\u201cSeen better darts in the pub and it all costs is a pint.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>North American\u2019s didn\u2019t do well.\u00a0\u00a0Paula Murphy drew Hungary\u2019s Veronika Ihasz (mentioned previously by the Whack Job).\u00a0\u00a0Murphy would lose 2-0 (3-0, 3-0) with only two legs in play where Paula missed 6 doubles. \u00a0Canadian lady Darlene Van Sleeuwen exited 2-1 in a match that could only be described as horrid. \u00a0There was only one leg under 20 darts. \u00a0Legs were won in 40, 33 (2), 27 (2), 32, 28, 23 and\u00a0a pair in 21.<\/p>\n<p>The ladies\u2019 field had quality as it\u2019s\u00a0their\u00a0world championship. \u00a0As until this year it was the ladies\u00a0only option.\u00a0\u00a0The field would have been stellar with Anna, Lisa Gulliver (a 10-times champion) and ticket seller Fallon Sherrock. \u00a0Gulliver and Sherrock are playing in the PDC. \u00a0Still quality.<\/p>\n<p>The reigning 2-time Champion\u00a0\u201cMiracle” Mikuru Suzuki\u00a0advanced with a\u00a02-0 (3-0, 3-2) win.\u00a0\u00a0The Queen, Deta Hedman (#1 in WDF points) got a rather rude welcome\u00a0from Aussie Tori Kewish being ousted 2-0 (3-0, 3-0).\u00a0\u00a0The final leg of the first set was some kind if ugly. \u00a0The two combined for a total of\u00a077 darts and 39 double attempts.\u00a0 The dart beginner\u2019s favorite out was hit: DOUBLE 1.<\/p>\n<p>USA\u2019s\u00a0Kevin Luke\u2019s\u00a0lost 2-0 (3-2, 3-2) to England\u2019s Steve Hine where he never had a shot to turn it around.\u00a0\u00a0Jules Van Dongen went down to Netherland\u2019s\u00a0Ryan De Vreede 3-1 (2-3, 2-3, 3-1, 1-3).\u00a0\u00a0Van Dongen had his chances especially in the second set with a 2-nil lead, but he failed to check with 3 from 52.\u00a0\u00a0In the 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0set he couldn\u2019t erase 72 in 3 to draw level.<\/p>\n<p>The Solder Leonard Gates was the last Yank on the stage against England\u2019s\u00a0Steve Hine, who had ousted Kevin Luke 2-0 with an 83+ average.<\/p>\n<p>Hine would prove to be a Yank killer as he squeezed out a 3-0 (3-1, 3-2, 3-2) win where Gates had chances. \u00a0In the first set he wasted 9 from 64 to stay alive.\u00a0\u00a0In the second set he couldn\u2019t check 3 from 70 and in set 3 at 97 he managed only 73.<\/p>\n<p>Two of\u00a0three Canadians men moved on.\u00a0 Rory Hansen 2-0 (3-1, 3-2) and\u00a0Shawn Burt 2-0 (3-1, 3-1) with David Cameron exiting 2-1.\u00a0\u00a0Cameron lost set 1 (0-3). \u00a0He would reverse the score in set 2. \u00a0Cameron\u00a0led 2-1 in the deciding set\u00a0but failed to close from\u00a056 with 6, losing the leg in\u00a024 darts. \u00a0The loss came in 21 darts with no Cameron double. \u00a0Rory Hansen\u00a0was on the wrong end of a 0-3 ejection (3-0, 3-1, 3-1). \u00a0In the final set he had 6 darts to win and\u00a0extend.<\/p>\n<p>The event ends on Sunday. \u00a0So far, the best take-away has not\u00a0been a chicken curry with Nan Bread but the post of Chuck Hudson on a trip to the Lakeside:<\/p>\n<p>Flight to London\u2026 $1,000.00<\/p>\n<p>Rental car, hotel and event tickets\u2026 1,000 quid<\/p>\n<p>Cold Strawberry Cider\u2026 7 quid<\/p>\n<p>Me sitting in a nearly empty
